It’s itchy and uncomfy and the last thing you want to do is tell your significant other that you’ve got…**drum roll**…a yeast infection.
Dun, dun, dun!
I know in the past when I’ve had one I felt dirty and was worried that my partner would think so too. And the worst part is that just when I thought I was rid of it…it would come back.
So if you’re like the many women who struggle with yeast infections, you are going to love this post because I’m smacking down the truth bombs all about:
How to get rid of a yeast infection with my homemade vaginal suppositories.
(Side note: these will also work if you struggle with bacterial vaginosis too)
Before I tell you about the suppositories, it’s important that you understand WHY you’re getting a yeast infection. Frankly, if you don’t correct the root cause, then these suppositories will do little to correct things.
Why do women get yeast infections?
First let me start off by saying this: You are not dirty. And seriously, I want you to keep telling yourself that because that because it’s the truth. Your vagina is actually a self-cleaning machine but it eventually gets bogged down from the imbalance that’s occurring in the gut. So if you’ve been shoveling heaps of bread, pasta, pizza, rice and potatoes and washing it down with vino then your digestion is not only slowing down but you’re literally a breeding ground for candida. And when you are, it’ll show up in your vagina. Pretty incredible right?
Okay maybe not, because I’m assuming you’re not dancing over the fact you have a yeast infection but it is amazing that your body is throwing out signals to scream out:
“WOMAN, stop feeding me this stuff!”
So why are women eating all this shit?
I often have women tell me that it’s because they were so stressed that they emotionally ate and thus fell off the bandwagon. And in practice I’ve seen an epidemic of women who are running on fumes (and I used to be one of them). I understand that life can be stressful, but here is one thing I want to ask you: How much sleep are you getting?
Chances are…not enough.
So if you’re watching a marathon of Game of Thrones or scrolling through Facebook and Instagram until midnight, how do you expect to handle your shit the next day? Truth is, you won’t. You’ll be tired, reactive and stressed. So you’ll reach for anything to give you that high like anything that breaks down into sugar like those starchy complex carbs and alcohol. And you’ll need to stay up, so you’ll wash it down with coffee. Coffee further stresses your nervous system and if you’re drinking another cup after 12pm, then it inhibits your GABA production preventing you from calming down enough to sleep later. Yes that’s right, a cup at 12, 1 or 2pm can affect your sleep evening if you’re going to bed at 11pm.
In Sexy Lady Balls, my hormone membership program we suggest women to get off coffee for 30 days just to give their bodies a break. Yes I provide alternatives that are equally as soothing but it makes a world of difference and women report even more energy – go figure.
Conventional suppositories and Diflucan: Why they don’t work.
Here’s a caveat to this: they may work but guaranteed it’ll come up (and possibly with a vengeance) and you’ll be back at the pharmacy getting another box. See what Pharma did there? Sneaky…sneaky…
Just check out what’s in a Monistat suppository:
Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil Base, Benzoic Acid, Cetearyl Alcohol, Isopropyl Myristate, Polysorbate 60, Potassium Hydroxide, Propylene Glycol, Water (Purified), Stearyl Alcohol.
So tell me this, if you wouldn’t eat it, why would you stick it up your vagina? Not surprisingly, there are health warnings associated with the use of the product: the insert included inside the box states:
“Stop using miconazole vaginal and seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction (shortness of breath; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, face, or tongue; or hives). Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. These include burning, itching, irritation of the skin, and an increased need to urinate.”
No wonder why I felt like my vagina was on fire when I had first discovered it at the ripe age of 15 years old.
And what about Diflucan (aka Fluconazole)?
While it is an antifungal, you will also be clearing away some of the much-needed bacterial good guys in your gut so you’re more likely to have a recurrence. And side effects include:
- headache
- diarrhea
- nausea or upset stomach
- dizziness
- stomach pain
- vomiting
- changes in the way food tastes
- severe rash in people with lowered immunity
And it’s a major liver toxin – which we need for happy and healthy digestive systems and also hormone balance (because the liver plays a role in detoxification of hormones and toxins).
How to get rid of a yeast infection naturally.
For starters please for the love of sweet Mary, take a look at your lifestyle. If you aren’t sleeping well or drinking enough water, you are asking to be a chronic stress case. Whether I work with women through Sexy Lady Balls or privately, mindset is a huge part of their plan. So I ask you to put on your big girl pants on and hold yourself accountable because it’ll be your first step to then create boundaries thereafter.
Second, look at what you’re eating. I’m not telling you to go keto, nor am I telling you to never eat any complex carbs again, but I’m telling you to get a grip on the amount that you’re consuming. Instead of having all those grains, sub in fibre-rich vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli, zucchini or asparagus (because salad alone isn’t enough fibre). Get in your healthy dose of fats like coconut oil, organic butter and olive oil and consume protein like chicken, beef and fish as though it were a condiment. Because yes, you can still eat meat but eat primarily a plant-based diet.
Internally I’d highly suggest getting some fibre like half a teaspoon (to start) of psyllium mixed with two teaspoons of bentonite liquid clay. Mix it quickly in an 8oz glass of tepid water once a day in between meals and drink it quickly. But if you’re not drinking enough water, you will become constipated. And don’t forget to take your probiotics with breakfast daily!
And lastly…but not least are my homemade vaginal suppositories. You can make the moulds yourself out of aluminum foil but I bought AK-47 bullet moulds off of Amazon. Once they set in the freezer, they may crack a bit when coming out, so let them sit on your counter for a bit before trying to pop them out. If they still crack, just shove what you can either way.
I would suggest using these suppository moulds every day for five days then following up with a probiotic vaginal ovule containing L.acidophilus for seven days.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup organic cocoa butter, melted
- 3/4 cup organic coconut oil, melted
- 10 drops of tea tree essential oil
- 10 drops of lavender essential oil
- 10 drops of frankincense essential oil
- 1 tbsp yellow dock root powder
- 1 tbsp goldenseal powder
Instructions
- If your cocoa butter is in a jar, then place the jar in a pot of water over the stove on medium low heat. The cocoa butter will eventually melt into liquid form.
- If your cocoa butter comes in chunks, then place it in a pot to melt.
- Take melted cocoa butter and coconut oil and combine in a pot.
- Remove from heat and add essential oils followed by herbal powders.
- Mix well and carefully pour into suppository moulds. I use a dropper which works really well.
- Freeze and remove from freezer for about 10 minutes prior to popping them out to avoid them from cracking.
- If they do crack, insert them anyway.
