You know that feeling where everything was due yesterday? When there’s just not enough hours in a day? Where you feel like you take care of everyone and have little left for yourself? Where you may stay up later than you know you should, but COME ON, it’s your only “me time” right?
I’m Melissa, 20 years into the future and listen up woman, because I have some wise, but tough ass messages I need you to listen to.
I’m here to tell you all about Natural Treatments for Menopause that you’re going to need.
Now if you’re in your mid to late-30’s, you may not feel that this applies to you, but if anyone needs to listen YOU DO. The reason is because there are more women than you may want to believe who are entering into perimenopause early (late 30’s rather than in their early 40’s!). Once you’re in perimenopause, you can be in that hormonal fluctuating up and down roller coaster for up to 10 years until your periods completely cease.
Do you have to suffer?
Heck no, and I wanted to give you tools to help you transition easier and if you’re already in it, I have tools that you’ll want to incorporate as well.
But first, let’s talk about some signs and symptoms:
Signs that perimenopause may be on its way:
Vaginal dryness
Fatigue
Worsening PMS
Urinary leakage when you cough or sneeze
Night sweats especially before your period
This is the period when progesterone begins to dip. Progesterone is the hormone that makes us feel good, emotionally stable and nourished.
Perimenopausal symptoms (all of the above including)
Hot flashes
Mood swings
Irregular periods
Lowered sex drive
Breast tenderness
Unexplained weight gain
Insomnia
In this phase, progesterone continues to decline and we begin to see that tilt go off with estrogen causing women to experience estrogen dominant-type symptoms. Testosterone levels begin to fall during this time as well and some women will experience difficulties maintaining muscle mass.
Menopause symptoms (this is when menstruation stops)
Insomnia
Unexplained weight gain
Lowered sex drive
Depression
Heart palpitations
Progesterone, estrogen and testosterone dip in this phase and there’s an opportunity to support all three.
Okay so now what?
Manage your stress!
For starters, I can’t stress to you enough, that no matter what you do, if you’re not managing your stress, you will go through hell (and frankly, you probably are right now if they’re unmanaged). I see this in women all the time – especially in Type A personalities (like me!) because we’re the do’ers. Problem is, with that, there is also a certain level of codependency. This doesn’t mean that you aren’t independent but rather that you’re sacrificing a part of yourself to appease (or enable) someone else. Sound familiar? So take responsibility for your resentments and set some boundaries woman!
And lastly and most importantly – get off your devices (and that includes the TV too!) no later than 8:30pm!
Sleep is crucial, so even leading up to it, make sure to get yourself a pair of blueblockers. I love my Swanwicks and now you can use coupon code: SEXYBLUEBLOCKERS to get 15% off your next purchase.
Hydrate!
Dehydration can lead to elevated stress hormones and as you’ve seen in my video stress can consume progesterone which is the last thing you want! So make sure to drink half your body weight in ounces of water and add in 1/4 tsp of sea salt to every litre of water you drink (e.g. 140lbs / 2 = 70oz of water daily). Sea salt is incredibly nourishing to the adrenals and helps to provide mineral support to the body as well (which acts as the spark plugs and foundations of the body). My go-to brand is Real Salt.
Support your estrogen and progesterone phases with: Seed Cycling
If you’re having a regular cycle still…
Take 1 tbsp of milled flax seeds and 1 tbsp of pumpkin seeds and consume daily from day 1 of your cycle (which is your first day of your bleed and not when you’re spotting) to day 13 of your cycle. This will help to support your healthy estrogens!
Then on day 14 until the day before your bleed take 1 tbsp of sunflower seeds + 1 tbsp sesame seeds daily. This will help to support your progesterone!
If you’re not having a regular cycle or are not menstruating at all…
Take 1 tbsp of milled flax seeds and 1 tbsp of pumpkin seeds and consume daily from the full moon to the gibbous moon (halfway point).
Then on day 14 until the day before your bleed take 1 tbsp of sunflower seeds + 1 tbsp sesame seeds daily. This will help to support your progesterone!
